My Perspective on Marketing

By Amir Nasiri

After many years of experience in marketing, and reading many books on this subject, I wanted to share with you my perspective on marketing.

Marketing is not just sales or advertising; they are just components of marketing.

Marketing is a combination of Science and Art. It is the science of capturing people’s imaginations and, like an artist, delivering the image that captures that imagination.

I compare a good marketing plan and strategy to a good wine.

It requires both the science and the art of the marketing manager to deliver it.

A wine maker uses his trained palate, plus his knowledge and expertise from many years of experience, into making an elegant wine. The forces of nature, water, earth and sun play a great role in making a good wine.

Marketing is the same way in that it requires the understanding of the psychology and sociology of consumers, and using that science to extrapolate that information into results.

I always believed that marketing should be the core of any business because that is where the connection between internal and external forces is made. Marketing is the bridge between the known and unknown, between R&D and Sales, between Accounting and IT.
